Mega Rugby Festival

On a sunny Thursday afternoon 9 children took part in a Mega Rugby Festival at Kesteven Rugby Club . Team played a mix of games and activities based around rugby skills. It was a non contact, non competitive festival but that did not stop the games and activities suitable for all abilities becoming rather competitive at times! Great fun was had by all learning and playing new games against/ with other local primary  schools. We were paired up with Isaac Newton school and as you will see by the photos - our boys wanted to "win" even though there was no official scoring.
Our team before the start-no girls wanted to play-hopefully next time !
First game- 5 passes without the tag being taken and then touch down at any side of the playing square.
We were a bit unsure at first but soon got the idea and started to score.

breaking away ready to score
another scoring opportunity
and touch down
now we are getting good at this!
Next activity-ball is kicked in and teams need to get the ball first and pass- no running when holding the ball- to  get the ball past the scoring line to the goal scorer on the line who touches it down to score.
This game used different skills  as no running with the ball  was allowed,so passing skills were important here.

Teams trying to get the ball from the restart after a goal had been scored.

Rugby Rounders...
Here  a Young Leader throws the  ball for each player to catch and then kick the ball as far as possible- then as in rounders- run round the markers without being stumped out by the fielding team.

We had some great kickers-Ben and Casper kicked it for "miles."

Ben on his way to scoring his rounder.

Jasper found it didn't matter if the ball didn't go too far away as long as the fielders didn't get the ball and you could sprint round then you could score a rounder.

Fielding now, we had to pass the ball to stump out the runner.

Another turn at kicking- great style Casper-
Fabulous catch Arthur- out!

Next activity...
throwing round the circle before the runner completes their circle

now Stuck in the mud rugby style

the catchers ready to go to tag people
Next game-Rob the Nest
to start with one at a time steal as many balls from the central nest

then steal from others nests

team talk about tactics

                                                                  lots of stealing from nests

Nobody is stealing from our nest! Shame guarding was not allowed!

another stolen successfully

determined to get the most eggs in the nest

lots of running- good job next we had a drinks break!

Last activity- more like tag rugby- pass without getting tag caught and pass to goalies at scoring line.

A great afternoon of activities run by Young leaders from Priory Ruskin with the help from Kesteven rugby club and our SGO-Terry Plumb.
