Sarah Outen M.B.E. visits our school...

On Wednesday Sarah visited us together with Inspire+ to talk to us about her London 2 London via the World tour.
She showed us photos, video clips as well as recounting her journey and some of her favourite parts.

Sarah starts showing photos of Happy Socks and explains where she kept her food and supplies...
Where she slept...

her journey....

Sarah at the start of her adventure over  4 1/2 years ago

Happy Socks in sunny weather...it wasn't always sunny and calm!

Explaining what it was like when the weather turned nasty!

The size of her bed!

Kayaking and riding the waves.

Cycle power in the heat...

and the cold!

Meeting new friends...

someone who was keen to get close up...

The final leg of the journey- we were there!

There we are...our red jumpers showing up under Tower Bridge.

Sarah told us one of her favourite stories about Gao who she met on the road who wanted to join her...he did!
He bought a bike and joined Sarah on her jouney through the desert to Beijing. The motto-Just do it! Gao said at the end to sum up the adventure..." I am happiness."

Question time...

Sarah getting close to hear the questions- some excellent ones...If you were to go on another adventure what 3 modes of transport would you  use this time?

Sarah joining us for a whole school photo sitting on the bench with Y6.

Y6 say the bench is special now after such a famous person sat on it.

Thank you Sarah- an entertaining and inspiring talk encouraging us all to dream big, have an adventure and to go for it!

High 5 Netball Matches

7 children played their first competitive matches this week against schools who had already had 2 rounds of match experience in the Autumn term.Because of this I talked to the team prior to the match warning them that the other teams had match experience and so this was to be a learning curve for us.How wrong can you be!? The children played as if they had played on proper size courts before, knowing where to stand and what their jobs were= FABULOUS! I was very proud of all of them. The skills practised in the school hall over the winter and the shooting practised at break times paid off-we drew match 1 and won match 2!

1 year 6 and 6 year 5's excited about the matches.

Right at the start- the whistle blown and we start our first match against St Mary's school.

An evenly matched game with the ball going from end to end. We scored, they equalised, we scored again, they equalised...final result 2-2.

Fast and furious....both teams ran the full length of the court.

Each half children change positions so that everyone plays all 5 positions.

Second match against Belmont.

Lots of attempts to score against Belmont- 5 goals went in.

Hollie was determined to get the ball back and have another shot at goal.

Looking on target.....goal!

After half time, teams changed ends and the result was the same-lots of shots from Marston-Casper going for glory with Matthew eagerly watching on.

A very proud team- deservedly so-fantastic games- congratulations.I went home cold but very happy!

BISI badminton 2nd festival

Our second team of children represented the school in the 2nd BISI badminton festival at KGGS.

Children worked at 8 different activity stations based on badminton.

How long a rally could they maintain?
Concentrating hard, keeping their eye on the shuttle cocks.

Listening to the Young Leaders give the instructions for the next activity.

Well done year 5's-great team work.
