Our Bronze Sports Ambassadors Casper and Joseph welcomed our visitors and lead the assembly telling the whole school all about the forthcoming Olympics.
First a reminder of the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Now showing where the games are on a world map and telling us some interesting facts about Brazil.
The Olympic torch and what the design represents: the country's nature, the people, the sky, mountains, the sea and the sky. The top of the torch is gold Ike the sun and the colour of the medal all athletes aim for.
The torch made for the tour which we will pass onto Long Bennington. We also have one for us to keep too.
Learning about the mascots:Tom and Vimicius.
The Bronze Ambassadors from Barkston joined in answering some of the questions.
We learned the 2 new Olympic sports were Rugby 7's and Golf.
Barkston read their pledge to us before handing the torch over .
Our ambassadors receive the torch and thank Barkston.
Carl from Inspire+ now asks us to draw our country for the year 3/4 to represent at the Mini Olympic Games in June.
Hoping for a good draw...
Yeah!Jamaica- we look forward to learning all about the country and making a flag for our opening ceremony in June.
Casper seems happy with the draw result.
Thank you Barkston, we will do our best in the Tri golf today.
Thank you Carl for showing the photos and videos whilst Casper and Joseph told us all about Rio 2016.Well done boys- very informative and interesting.
The following day I took the boys together with the Tri Golf kit, pledge and torch to Long Bennington School. Here the boys delivered our pledge and message that will be forwarded to the G.B Olympic athletes in front of 250 children and staff.
A daunting task that was faultlessly carried out-well done boys- super ambassadors for our school- I was proud of you.
Handing over the torch to The Sports Council of Long Bennington School.
